TEAM EVALUATIONS FOR 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8

Point system of attendance & skills during March

Final evaluations - March 27th & 28th at Cedar Rock SportsPlex/ERMS weather permitting.  

If a player cannot attend these dates, please communicate with Chris Gervat - Director of Coaching.

Players should work on building their skill and development over the course of the next 2 months in preparation for Tryouts.  

Players/Parents DO NOT have a choice on team placement based on schedule only.


KinderGARTEN AGE GROUP

This format was created to give kids at the Kindergarten level an easy way to begin to learn the game of lacrosse. The focus will be built around teaching the basic fundamental concepts need to succeed at the higher grade levels and have fun.

  • 5 sessions:  May Dates TBD
  • Non Contact - Stick and Gloves Only
  • Learn to play format run by RBYL Experienced and Parent Volunteer Coaches
  • Small ball format (US Lacrosse Recommendation)
  • 1 lacrosse day/week (@ East Rockford Middle School Day/Time: TBD)
  • Internal Scrimmages
  • Cost: $50 (includes shooter shirt only)

GRADES 1/2 (U8)

7v7 Small Ball

This format is put forth by US Lacrosse which is the governing body of lacrosse in the US. Small ball creates higher IQ by condensing the field. It creates more touches for each player in practices and in games with smaller teams. It creates better stick skills as you are forced to pass in smaller spaces creating a need to react faster. This is how Canadians play the sport mainly through HS! Because of this Canadiens have higher stick skills in general compared to American players.

  • 10 sessions:  May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, June 1 & 2
  • Learn to play format run by RBYL Experienced and Parent Volunteer Coaches
  • Small ball format (US Lacrosse Recommendation)
  • 2 lacrosse days/week (Monday/Wednesday @ East Rockford Middle School Time: TBD)
  • Internal Scrimmages
  • May 14 OR 15 King of the Hill at Forest Hills Schools (1 Day Only)
  • June 4 OR 5 Midwest LaxBash in Lansing, MI (1 Day Only)
  • Cost: $75 (includes shooter shirt only)

GRADES 3/4 (U10)

  • Indoor practice begins March 7th @ Hensley’s Lax Barn - Time: 6:00-7:15pm
  • Outdoor practice begins @ East Rockford Middle School as soon as weather permits in March (Mon/Wed)
  • 3-4 lacrosse days per week M-T-W-TH for practice/games beginning April 11
  • Tournaments and Round Robins: 
    • All TEAMS - April 30/May 1 - Rip the Duck - Edwardsburg, MI
    • BLACK TEAM ONLY - May 7 - Round Robin West Side Location/Time TBD
    • ORANGE TEAM ONLY - May 14 OR 15  - King of the Hill - Forest Hills Schools

GRADES 5/6 (U12)

10 v 10 Teams

12U lacrosse is where young athletes are honing their technical skills and begin building the tactical skills needed in lacrosse. Athletes should have multiple opportunities to practice these skills while in an environment that is inclusive of all athletes.

  • 2 Teams - Black (Competitive) and Orange (House)
  • Indoor practice begins March 6th @ Cedar Rock SportsPlex - Time: 6:00-7:30 and Wednesdays at Hensley's.
  • Outdoor practice begins @ East Rockford Middle School as soon as weather permits in March (Mon/Wed)
  • 4 lacrosse days per week M-T-W-TH for practice/games beginning April 11
  • Tournaments and Round Robins: 
    • All TEAMS - April 30/May 1 - Rip the Duck - Edwardsburg, MI
    • BLACK TEAM ONLY - May 7 - Round Robin West Side Location/Time TBD

14U lacrosse is where young athletes begin emerging into a competitive environment. Athletes at this age are preparing to be competitors. With respect to the competition at this level, coaches parents, and officials should model and emphasize.

  • 2 Teams - Black (Competitive) and Orange (House)
