FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT AGES CAN PLAY?   Rockford Boys Youth Lacrosse is open to boys in grades K-8th.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON RUN?   Rockford Boys Youth Lacrosse spring season typically runs from late March to the end of school.  

IS LACROSSE DANGEROUS?   As is with all sports the risk of injury is a possibility. In a recent study on injuries in youth sports, lacrosse had a fewer percentage of injuries than football, ice hockey, soccer, wrestling, and cheerleading. 

IS THERE TRAVEL INVOLVED? The majority of our play will surround the Grand Rapids area. You can also expect 2-3 weekend events that may involve in-state travel. For those trying out and playing on our Tournament teams, you can expect some overnights and to be playing almost every weekend with many being out of town. If travel is an issue, there are always other families happy to help.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORANGE & BLACK TEAMS?   Our teams are split by grade into a Black (competitive) and Orange (developmental). The goal of the Orange teams is to help players better develop their fundamental skills, increase lacrosse IQ, and build confidence. The Black teams are mostly comprised of kids who have already developed a strong skill set, have higher lax IQ and are ready to compete against the best teams in the age group. At some times and in certain circumstances, kids will be asked to play both. 

WHAT IS THE TOURNAMENT TEAM?  The tournament team is a high-level travel lacrosse team that does require travel and play on most weekends. This team will hold tryouts during spring practices before the season opens.

DO YOU PROVIDE A JERSEY?  Starting with the 2022 season players will be required to purchase their jersey set. They will be able to keep and reuse in future seasons. 

HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT SIZE JERSEY TO ORDER?  Before the start of the season we will have a series of "try on" days where you can come and see what size will work best. Athlete's Connection will also have sizing kits in case you can't make a try on day.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF SPRING?  RBYL offers several opportunities during the off season including practices, clinics, and summer/fall events. There are also several organizations offering off season programs and you can learn more by clicking here.
